About Cedar Glen Alpacas
Although we both have full-time jobs, we have always dreamed of having a home-based business of our own. Almost like magic, when we finally discovered alpacas in the summer of 2002, everything fell into place and made our leap of faith a lot easier.
We had 6.5 acres of wooded property, but almost half of it had died off, was a fire hazard, and needed to be cleared. The kids had graduated and moved on with their lives, leaving us with lots of free time and even a little mad money! We were looking ahead to retirement, but felt we needed to start a business while we still had the security of a steady income.
Even before our property was ready, we puchased our first 4 foundation dams and then scrambled to fence off a small area for pasture and added a temporary shelter. We also started reading everything we could get our hands on about alpacas.
Our first two dams came home in June of 2003. Since then, we have gradually added more pasture areas, a 1200 sq/ft barn, a 600 sq/ft 2-sided shelter, a perimeter fence and cross fencing with 10 foot gated corridors between the pastures.
Are we done? Well, almost. It seems there is always some new project that keeps us busy and motivated, but we feel we have lived up to our motto and created a “Pure ‘Paca Heaven”!
