Reina was the first female born here on our farm, so it has been a real pleasure watching her grow from a sweet little cria to a beautiful maiden and now into a wonderful, caring mother.
Reina won 1st place in Shorn Halter for Fawn 2+ Females at AlpacaMania 2005. Judge Tim Lavan especially liked her style and her full bonnet, but you can judge for yourself! Her beautiful fleece took 4th place at the 2006 AWE Handcrafters Spin-off with a total score of 94 out of 100. She earned maximum points for staple length, lack of guard hair, crimp, staple structure (architecture), uniformity, fineness, brightness, ease of spinning, and hand feel (softness and loft of yarn).
Reina's dam, Applegate's Calla Lilly, won a third-place ribbon at the 2003 Alpacamania fleece show, scoring especially high in the categories of color, crimp, and uniformity. Daughter of the prolific PPeruvian Demetrio, Calla (now deceased) had excellent bone structure and was an easy birther and milker. She definitely passed those traits on to Reina, her only daughter.
Reina's sire, WVR's Renegade, is a multiple blue-ribbon winner with exceptional conformation, extreme coverage down to his toes, commanding presence and a charismatic personality. Of Renegade's first 21 crias, 15 were female and all are colored, including tuxedo front silver and rose-greys, solid grey and rose-greys, blacks, browns--and our Reina, a light fawn, even when bred to white!
Reina is living up to all this genetic potential by passing her beautiful crimpy fleece and calm personality on to her crias. We are especially pleased with her 2008 cria, Amontillado, and repeated that breeding to our handsome fawn stud, Tocayo (now deceased) to produce 2009's cria, Nochelo. Reina was then bred to Diego del Padre and together they produced a sturdy, handsome, pure white boy, Santiago.
Reina will not be bred this year because we are simply running out of space in the pastures, but if you decide to purchase her, we would be glad to breed her to a CGA herdsire of your choice, as well as throw in an additional future breeding.

Calla, of Chilean and Peruvian heritage, is a very attentive mother with a wonderful disposition. She gave us two gorgeous crias -- Reina and her half-brother, Lucero. Both of them have fabulous fleece and mellow personalities.
Calla's fleece won a third-place ribbon at the 2003 AlpacaMania show, scoring especially high in the categories of color, crimp, and uniformity.
Calla's sire, PPeruvian Demetrio, was a prolific herdsire during his breeding career, producing 86 registered crias in a wide array of colors in a 5-year period. |
